How does Olark know where my visitors are located, or what company they are affiliated with?

Olark uses a third party service called MaxMind to display the geolocation and organization affiliation, when it is known. This is based off of the visitor's IP address that we see. The IP address can sometimes be associated with an ISP (Internet Service Provider) or VPN (Virtual Private Network) that is very different from the visitor's actual location or organization.

Occasionally, this information is inaccurate due to the database simply being incorrect or out of date.

How do I correct the location or organization information for an IP address?

You can submit a correction directly to the MaxMind database which is updated regularly.
